Ault and its wonders

Clinging to the cliff-side, the market town of Ault faces the sea, sprinkled with a number of opulent villas reminiscent of the Belle Epoque and the 1900s, personalised with their magnificent ceramics.

The cliffs and the Bois de Cise
The high verdant valleuse of the Bois de Cise is a great vantage point for admiring the chalk cliffs from Normandy towards the mouth of the Bay of the Somme. Some will want to explore this geological curiosity further. The valleuse is a fissure between two cliffs, formed by streams of water and opening the way to the sea.

Onival beach
Onival beach is a very beautiful spot stretching over 5 miles between the towns of Ault and Woignarue, popular with fans of sand yachting, kite surfing and horse riding and those partial to fishing from the shore and seafront walks.

The Lighthouse stands almost 350 feet-tall, overlooking the whole town of Ault. The unobstructed views of the cliffs are astonishing. Victor Hugo liked to walk here and never grew tired of the landscape's changing light.

The Hâble d'Ault nature reserve
Just over a mile south of Cayeux-sur mer, this reserve is home to no less than 270 species of bird, including teals, plovers, herons, swans, coots and harriers. Surrounded by reeds and difficult to get to, Le Hâble (which means 'harbour' or 'port') is an area of exceptional vegetation which keeps the peace for its many resident species.
